Course Overview

Spanish equips students with the ability to communicate confidently and effectively in one of the world's most widely spoken languages.

  • Listening for gist and detail in authentic spoken Spanish
  • Reading and interpreting texts (articles, adverts, emails, literary extracts)
  • Writing structured responses: descriptions, opinions, arguments, and narratives
  • Speaking confidently in role-plays, discussions, and presentations
  • Using grammar accurately: tenses (present, past, future), agreements, and sentence structure

Assessment

  • Paper 1: Listening — 25%
    • Comprehension of spoken Spanish in a variety of contexts
  • Paper 2: Reading and Writing — 50%
    • Reading comprehension and written tasks (short and extended responses)
  • Paper 3: Speaking — 25%
    • Conducted by a teacher and externally assessed; includes role-play, picture-based discussion, and conversation on chosen topics

All assessments are taken at the end of Year 11. There is no coursework.
